I just bought a drain snake to clean you drains in my bathroom. My question is, how do I clean it? Once it completely spread and grips whatever is blocking the drain, as I withdraw it how do I clean it? Should I just let it roll into the casing?

Any suggestions?

If I am snaking a drain such as a bathtub from the overflow I let the hot water run making sure no one is below just in case the snake penetrates the piping

The hot water with soap will clean the snake then I use WD 40 as I retrieve the cable and wipe it with a rag

Fill a bucket up with hot soapy water.
Use a quality disinfecting soap in the water.
Place the snake on the ground.
Wet the bristle brush in the bucket of soapy water and scrub the auger, flexible hose and plastic tube with the bristle brush.
Spray the snake off with your garden hose and wipe it down with a clean towel.

You can use salt, baking soda, vinegar, and/or lemon juice to deodorize and clean your sink. Mix whichever of these you have on hand into about a cup of the solution and pour it into the drain. Let it sit for an hour before flushing hot water down the drain.
