Hi everyone,
I'm planning to get a water softener within the next couple weeks. My municipal water quality report and online sizing calculators lead me to believe I would be best served with a 48,000 - 64,000 size system. I would prefer to oversize reasonably and use a lower salt quantity rinse as I understand that is more efficient for salt usage.

In researching different Fleck valve options I've become interested in the Fleck 5800 XTR2, which seems to have been announced in 2013. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this valve and opinions positive or negative.

I see dittohead reviewed the 5800SXT and liked it in 2012. Is the 5800 series still a great valve and one people like?
Other than a couple Canadian web stores I'm unable to find complete systems with a Fleck 5800XTR2. It appears that Pentair limits the Fleck 5800XTR2 to brick and mortar dealers. Where I could find the 5800XTR2 valve pricing info online, it was only about $50 - $80 more than a 7000 valve. Is it worth hassling with a local dealer or should I just get a 7000?
3,400 sq ft house, 3.5 baths, 5 people and 1" PEX incoming supply line. I'd like to keep the water flow rate up for the wife's happiness, but would personally like the touchscreen XTR2.
Thoughts and feedback please!
