I believe the original pump to be replaced is a Goulds of the above specifications. Since everything seems to be of Chinese manufacture (motors in particular) does anyone have any ideas or justification for why I should spend 2-3 times as much to replace with another Goulds vs. something like a Red Lion, Hallmark, or some other budget option? Hangs at about 65', so not a huge PITA to pull, but not something I wanna do every year either. Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.

I don't think is it worth 3 times the price, as all those pumps are very similar. I have heard from many people who are having good success with the Hallmark. And for that price you really can't afford not to try it. Any pump will last much longer if you eliminate the on/off cycling. A Cycle Stop Valve can make even a cheaply built pump last much longer.
