(I tried posting yesterday but can't find any evidence it worked - so I'm sorry if this is appearing twice.)

We've inherited the house I grew up in - has three Eljer toilets, one of which has been dry for about four years due to a leak. I want to fix it for various reasons (and I don't want to replace it with a new one unless I have to), but discovered after disassembling that the Korky universal 2" kit work.

I want to replace everything on it from the wax ring up to the gasket between the tank and the bowl to the fill valve to the flapper. When I started, I saw my dad had replaced the fill valve. The flapper was missing so I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I looked at plumbing supply.org, but I had a hard time figuring out what toilet it is. (Pictures below) I thought maybe a Hygeian or a 5140, but the numbers inside the tank say 44 and then maybe 3, and the lid says 275 4. Any help with figuring out what replacement parts I need? Once I know what I need, I'm pretty good at finding it.

Thank you,
Katie

You have an Eljer Duplex toilet. These were very popular in the 1950's and phased out around 1959 when the Emblem model replaced it. Parts are available.

You need a fill valve (fluidmaster or korky), metal handle (not plastic), and tank ball with guide wires. The tank ball sits right on porcelain bottom of the tank and the guide wires go through the brass bracket screwed into the tank.

It takes an Eljer tank to bowl gasket that will fit an Emblem model toilet. It's very flat rubber gasket.

Go on Youtube and type in Eljer Duplex and you will see how to assemble these things.

Cheers!

If it does not have a lot of sentimental value, consider replacing the toilet.

Thank you so much! Exactly what help I needed. ☺️

It sounds like you’re working with an older Eljer toilet, and finding the right parts can be tricky. The numbers inside the tank and lid (like 44 and 275 4) can help identify the exact model. Try reaching out to Eljer support or taking those numbers to a plumbing store—they might have guides to match the parts. In the meantime, you could use a universal flapper and fill valve as a temporary fix until you’re sure what you need.

hi,new here, i know this is an old post . you see that ceramic bumpout that has the rod attached . mine has a bolt holding the support . the bolt broke . a piece of the bolt is still in there i assume? how to get that hole cleared out so i can put in a new bolt . is there a nut on the bottom of the ceramic bump. if so it is also stuck . i cannot see what is under neath . do i drill it out? i am afraid to break it . is there a replacement product such that i bypass the old flapper and rod system . thank you. i hope i dont sound crazy >

Yes, there should be a nut on the bottom of the ceramic bumpout. If the bolt is broken on the top, you might be able to take a screw driver and hammer and lightly tap the broken bolt out. If you can, include a picture so we can see what exactly what you're dealing with?
