Moen Posi-Temp, Replacing shower valve

I'm having my shower redone and was thinking about replacing my current Moen Posi Temp valve with a new one while the wall was opened up. My only concern is about the quality of new valves. My current valve was manufactured around 1998 when the house was built. Are the new valves built as well as the older ones? Does Moen still manufacture their valves in the US with quality parts? Should I replace the valve or is it better to just keep the older valve and replace the cartridge? Thanks in advance. Jeff

If you can replace the cartridge now, I would use the old brass. Though sometimes while it's open it's the best time for replacement. It does seem like the old brass bodies had a bit more volume to the shower heads.

Thanks, Terry. I'll grab a new cartridge for it and install it before everything is buttoned up.

It's not the valve manifold that goes bad, but the Moen Posi Temp cartridges. Moen's been making their cartridges in North Carolina since they launched the Posi Temp cartridge back in the 80's. I've seen them made, they're legit. I'd keep the current valve in there, unless you wanted to replace it with an upgraded features, like a valve that has water volume control like the Moentrol valve.
