I recently had a well and irrigation installed. My well depth is 75’ and I have a 1 H.P. Sta-Rite deep well jet pump (SLE-L) and a 2 gallon pressure tank. The pressure is set to cycle on at 40 and off at 60 psi. I’ve noticed that the pressure drops when I’m not running water. It drops about 5 psi every 2 hours. The pump kicks on for a few seconds once it gets below 40 psi.
Is it normal for the pressure tank to lose pressure when not in use? I would assume there’s a leak somewhere in the pipes to cause the pressure to drop, but the company that installed my irrigation said it’s normal for a deep well pump to cycle 1-2 times every 24 hours to maintain pressure. Is this true? If not, what else could be causing it other than a leak in the pipes?
