What are these extra black lines coming out of my faucet?

I am a homeowner with no plumbing experience, but was hoping to be able to install a new faucet. However, I am unsure what the purpose is of the extra black lines coming out of it. Here is a picture:
The (very generic) instructions that came with the faucet say this:
The faucet is a Delta Arvo Single Handle Centerset Bathroom Faucet
Model#: 15840LF

This is from a Home Depot review:

This Delta Arvo faucet is very nice looking in the brushed nickel finish. It delivers better pressure than I expected which I appreciate. It comes with a new-to-me type of pop-up stopper. You simply push down on the pop-up and it clicks into place to close the drain. Push down again and it opens up to drain the water out. Very convenient as it eliminates the connecting rod behind the faucet. It was easy to install and the lever is very smooth to operate. I ordered two of these faucets for my master bathroom remodel. They both had regular threaded connecting lines, which I used, but one of the faucets had an extra set of hard plastic tubing with quick-connect fittings. The faucet came with a plug for the quick connect so water wouldn't leak out, but why were they there in the first place? I retuned the one with the quick connect fitting as I don't want a potential failure point under my sink. I ordered another of the faucets but it came with the quick connect fitting too. It is an online only item and there is no way to order the faucet without the extra set of lines, so I went ahead and installed it. Another thing was that the first "good" faucet had a scratched pop-up with the plastic coating ripped. I called Delta and they are sending me a replacement pop-up assembly. So kudos to Delta for their customer service.

As a complete guess, the mixed water exits from the cartridge down one black line and returns to the spout via the other. Similar to how pull out kitchen faucets work.

Precisely my question - why ARE they there in the first place? What is their purpose?
1. Some don't have them, from pictures I have seen.
2. I am sorta guessing/infering that you block either the compression fittings or the quick-connect fittings. But since that seems awfully hokey, I also suggest/hope my guess is wrong.
