Based on the suggestions I received I had a water test done on an outside hose bib by NTL, and received my results.

Quick recap: looking to replace my 2002 Kenmore UltraSoft 800 (45k Grain?) water softener on my well water, with a new system. It appears to have failed, getting a bad smell, lots of suds, most importantly my wife is complaining about her hair.

I would like to replace what we have with a Fleck, based on what I read on the forum.

Looking for some suggestions on sizing and also where I can get a system.

4 People in the house.
3/4" Water Pipes, sediment filter before the softener

calcium: 86 mg/L
iron: 2.043 mg/L
magnesium: 22.87 mg/L
Manganese: .06 mg/L
hardness: 310 mg/L
PH: 7.3

report is attached, partial due to file size limits, rest was ND (Not Detected)

I did three measurements of the well and came up with a range of 11.6 - 12 GPM.

Based on this I think I am looking at a 5810 XTR2 .75 cu ft system with 8% resin. Will I need any treatment besides the softener based on the iron or magnesium?

Additional question, I have .007 mg/L of Arsenic, what are my options to lower this? we drink RO water, but cook with water not from the RO system.

Thanks in advance for all the help, I greatly appreciate this forum and its members!

If it were me I would go with a simple AIO iron reduction system followed by a softener. Some of your arsenic will likely coprecipitate with the iron in the iron reduction AIO unit. As to the softener size, a .75? Minimum recommended size for most residential applications is closer to double that. Cost is nearly identical to the smaller units so go bigger. https://83498217-c360-4279-a995-14f...d/a3c37f_f2c36483e56e49118b54f71950059336.pdf
