Water softener pressure

I had to remove my softener tank to replace a pressure tank. When I reinstalled the softener tank I forgot to replace the clip that holds the tube in. When I regenerated the system the hose blew out and all the resin blew out of the tank. Is there something else wrong with the system, or is that normal. It seems like there was a lot more pressure coming out than I would expect.
