Can someone please PM me with the most reputable online dealers? I am quite comfortable going the DIY route, assuming the equipment I am installing didnt just fall off the truck.

I've been looking quite a bit at US Water Systems amongst a few others.

A few things you should keep in mind about ordering online....
1. Do you have enough experience to test the water, diagnose all water problems, determine what equipment may or may not be needed, and properly size the equipment to your water test flow rates?
2. What happens if a mistake is made in part 1?
3. How are warranty issues addressed? Who determines if a part is covered under warranty? Do you have to wait for 4-6 weeks to get a replacement?
4. Who will service this equipment when the time comes? Do your have the know how or specialty tools that may be required?
5. If the softener or filter comes empty do you have a mineral funnel and distributor cap?
6. If the filter comes filled how do you know that it's been kept upright from the dealer to your door step?
7. Does the dealer have a physical door that you can go knock on if required?
I could go on but you get my point.

This is why I don't like most online dealers. many are just UPS boxes, others are guys sitting in a Wal Mart parking lots stealing the stores internet and living out of their camper, others are guys who sell water systems, candles, hover boards, LED lighting, fidget spinners and whatever else they can add to their different websites. Even the companies that have been around for decades... some guy in his moms basement trying to be the lowest online price...

Many manufacturers are starting to severely restrict the online sales of their equipment due to these issues. When the manufacturer is taking calls from homeowners because the internet seller has no clue as to how to fix an improperly designed and installed piece of equipment, and the online company made $20... simply stated it is not worth the headaches. If you read through some real old posts you will find one of the guys that was on this site that literally lived by going from WalMart to Walmart stealing their internet and selling water treatment equipment. This is also the same guy who bragged about saving hundreds of dollars a month in taxes by making his own cigarettes... how much do you have to smoke to save hundreds f dollars a month? :)

As a legitimate business owner with overhead, inventory, truck, insurance, taxes, licenses, years of experience, ect. this becomes an everyday fight for me. Especially when Joe handyman can go to Amazon and buy equipment at a lower price than I can from a wholesale distributor. And no I don't have a high priced wholesaler....I have accounts with 4 of them. It really hurts small business owners like myself. Pentair and Clack really need to reel this in.

Clack valves, and the new 5800 series by Pentair are constantly going after the online dealers. We have to keep chasing companies down and have stopped selling to many of them as they try to buy the USA made valves and then put them on junk tanks, with junk media, and junk components. It is very difficult to control but it is happening. Unfortunately too many people look on Amazon and find the cheapest price, install the equipment, then complain that their house got flooded... the companies then threaten to sue people for bad reviews... cease and desist letters and legal threats fly quickly with these companies.

I like your motto "We will not compete in the race to the bottom!" Fits this thread perfectly. Very nice catalog too.

How many cigarettes does one need to smoke to save hundreds of dollars? Probably in New York three packs a month. But I really don't know since I don't smoke.

So yesterday I went on a service call to a guy that I had quoted a new softener. He decided to buy one online and install it himself. I had to set up up for him (the best I could given that it's undersized for his water and the 7 people in the home)....charged a service call. I told him that it was undersized and it's likely that he will overrun the capacity on heavy usage days. Now he is going to buy a larger tank, new distributor and resin with more labor on top of that. How much did he really save in the end? Nothing....i could have sold him a better softener with full warranty for less.

Not only that but most of the online companies put an older model Fleck valve (still great valves but "dated") on top of the cheapest tank, with the cheapest resin, and with poor quality brine tanks with junk safety floats, 25 cent risers that you can crush in your hand, no gravel, and knockoff bypasses. It would be like buying a Ford F150 body and throwing a TATA underneath...
