Just had a system professionally installed in California.

Install looks good with the exception of the drain line.
I’ve seen them do other installs where they install a ptrap on the cleanout but looks like they just tapped a fitting into the cleanout cover on mine.

Debating if I should have them come out and fix it.

The line runs from the other side of the garage up about 4 feet to the ceiling then across and back down. If we had a sewage backup wouldn’t it come out of the downstairs sinks first before going up and all the way around to the softener?

Is that pipe that is disappearing into the wall going to a city sewer, or to the gravel outside?

It looks like they might have just poked a hole in a sewer cleanout. A connection to a sewer should have an airgap followed by a p-trap.

Yes its a sewer line and that is what they did, tap the cleanout cover for the softener drain line.

It is usually easy to add a simple P-Trap and air gap. Be sure it is unionized so in the future a plumber can easily remove it to snake the drain should that become necessary.

They came back and added a p-trap. The old tap fitting in the clean out cover was leaking, so I called them back out.

Still no air gap but I can easily fix that myself later.

Is it acceptable to use a sanitary-tee on its side like this?
