I'm in Austin tx, as you may know, we were hit with much colder temps than we are used to. Lots of cracked pipes. I am not a professional plumber, but I have been helping fix cracked pipes in our neighborhood. I myself was without running water for 2 days. I'm trying to help a family that has a kinetico water softener (at least). The water was leaking out by the middle bypass valve. The owner tried to remove the valve and hacked the connection as shown in the picture. It seems to me that the tee on the left will need to be removed. I have proposed to just join the input and output pipes (the ones coming out of the ground) so that they can have running water, then get a professional to fix it properly after things warm up here. Was this unit installed properly? Is there a better method for us to use to fix this situation?
