Hello,

I am installing a new master shower (where old whirlpool tub used to be) on the 2nd floor of my home, which will require me to install a 2” drain for it. Due to location of new shower drain/existing vent that I need to connect to I was planning on using two long sweep 90s in the horizontal run of 2” pipe before it drops vertically into a 3” line. One of the long sweeps would be between the trap and my vent connection. The other long sweep would be between the vent connection and where it drops vertically into a 3” horizontal drain.

My questions are:

-Is it okay to make these two changes of direction, in this fashion?

-Is it okay to make this 2” horizontal drain longer that 8’ if the vent connection distance to the trap is less than 8’?

Thanks!

1) Yes if the first LT90 (in the trap arm) is horizontal to horizontal. If the second 90 is to turn from horizontal to vertical, it can be a quarter bend.

2) Yes if the slope on the trap arm, including the first LT90, is 1/4" per foot. If you go steeper, then you lose allowable length, as the key limit is the total fall from the trap outlet to the vent connection. That fall is limited to one trap diameter. The length of the fixture drain after the vent connection is not regulated.
