Toothbrush lost down sink drain

Hi, I'm staying at my mother-in-law's house. My wife was helping my young son brush his teeth when he threw the toothbrush down the sink drain! I have no idea why the stopper wasn't in place, but it's too late for that now.

I'm wondering if someone knows of a tool that can fish it out. The toothbrush is probably 6-8 inches down the drain pipe. I don't have my tools, so I really don't want to go buy a new wrench and parts to replace the trap. Any ideas?

You won't have to 'replace' the trap. You might be able to loosen with yr hands. The hardest part about removing and refastening the trap is clearing enough space under the cabinet to put a bucket so you won't spill a few cups of water.

Metal coat hanger or other wire. Also try a shop vac, it's worked for me when I have drop something into a shower p-trap, in the past.

A trap shouldn't be much more than hand tight and so it really won't require major tools. It might even be possible to get it with just the hands. At the most, a pair of channel lock pliers should be sufficient.

you could go to an auto parts store and by a 4 pronged "grabber" it shouldn't be much more than a buck.

You shouldn't need "tools" at all. Be creative. If you can see the brush, you can get it out with a creative approach, like chewing gum on a stick, Chopsticks sprayed with something sticky like hairspray, Salad tongs, a small lariat on the end of a stick. Look around and you will find something. It might even be fun.
