I’ve been dealing with a strange issue where my toilet occasionally makes a loud gurgling noise and bubbles in the bowl, even when it’s not being used. It’s been happening more frequently, and now it’s starting to back up slightly when I flush. I tried plunging it and even used a drain cleaner, but it hasn’t made much of a difference.

I’m worried it might be a deeper problem in the line. Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice on what I should do? Also, if you know someone reliable who can help, please let me know!

Check your sewer/septic line for a cleanout, better if it's outside. If you have a cleanout you would want to remove it and see if the pipe is draining. Understand before you remove the cap if there is a backup you will be opening up a line under pressure from the line. Wear gloves, a faceshield and old clothes and remove the cap slowly. If as you loosen it water starts coming out, you have a problem and it is downstream from where you are. Depending on where your cleanout is you will want to catch and dispose of what will come out.

How long since the septic tank was pumped, if you have one.

If not, consider having your drain lines cleaned by a drain cleaning specialist.
