I have a Kohler toilet. Sometimes it won't flush completely, on the second or third flush it will flush completely, but lets out a big belch. Only the bathroom is on this drain into septic tank. The plumbing was done about 20 years ago and uses an air admittance valve. I tried a new valve, same. I took the valve out and it flushes normal.
I ran a snake into the bathroom sink drain, which goes into the toilet drain to a length where I know it got as far as the septic tank, didn't hit any obstructions and nothing on the end of the snake. I'm not sure what to do next.
Thanks in advance.

Have you had your septic tank pumped lately?

If the path to the roof vent is under water, that can make flushing not good.

Pumping earlier than needed is not nearly as expensive as pumping later than needed.

An AAV only lets air in. When you flush a toilet, it will be trying to push a big slug of water down the pipes, pushing some air ahead of it. An AAV may not cut it depending on the existence of an atmospheric vent. The venting system needs at least one atmospheric vent to work right.

But, no toilet will flush well if the line is already full for some reason. Depends on what you used for your fish whether you'd be able to tell all that much as it could just push through some things.
