I believe it to be an acid neutralizer base on what i heard when i emailed watercare. but the guy wasnt sure since its so old.

Maybe someone here has access to old model numbers.

its 8"x44" tank with and timer head on it.

Not enough info. It will be hard to say whether it's a carbon, birm or pH neutralizer filter.
well there is no fill ports or anything like that on it. I was told it was and acid nuetralizer and i was just trying to see if i need to replace it ( i am getting a water test done to confirm ph...

Please post more pictures. If it is a neutralize that has not been serviced in many years then yes... It should be serviced but... Get a complete water test done first.
