Shower leak- baffled by cartridge removal

Removing the handle was different than expected but got through it. Underneath I found a lot of putty- most of which I've removed. (See picture). I believe that I'm going to need to use a deeep socket faucet wrench to get it out, but there doesn't appear to be room for that to fit inside the cutout. It feels like it might require cutting a slightly larger hole in the one piece enclosure but that's definitely a step further than I want to go without being sure that's the right next step. Is there another way to get this cartridge out that I'm missing? Shower head is a Cifial so I assume the fixture is as well.
