Shower diverter valve no longer working. I watched many youtube videos showing using a socket to remove it. Mine doesn't use a socket. I went another place asking for help and was only told to remove the stem with pliers. I took pictures of the removed stem. I was sent a link to the replacement part, and told a piece is still in the valve. I asked how to remove that piece without damaging anything, but no reply.

Replacement part:

This part some has some dark end piece I was told still exists in the valve but I have no idea how to remove it.

I removed the handle, cover plate, and cartridge stem if that's what it's called? Unsure how to proceed.

Can someone please provide further assistance?
