I had some underslab work done where we needed to remove the Oately Pipe Wrap from copper pipes.

We use Viega ProPress fittings for the under slab connection. Slick stuff.

I only need like 3' of wrap (from point of extension up and over to a wall), so buying a huge thing of Pipe Wrap seems silly. I hope to not be doing anymore of this in the future.

My under slab base is basalt cinders. They are pretty abrasive.

Am I fine to just wrap the pipes with foam insulation, and hold it on with duct tape? Or wrap it a few times with plastic sheeting? It my understanding the pipe wrap is just there to keep the abrasives from rubbing on the pipe during thermal movement, so any barrier between pipe and gravel will do. Correct?
