2-1/2 years ago, I used Hercules Pro Dope on a brass assembly for my main water supply (pictured).

Recently, I noticed the dope around the joints is turning green. No leaks, but the valve box does trap humidity (the little black box is a temp/humidity sensor).

Is it normal for the dope to (apparently) cause corrosion? What's the deal?

It's not corrosion, it's oxidation. For most brass fittings pipe dope is not required nor recommend on brass fittings.

Good to know. Would a decent teflon tape be recommended instead? I designed it to be easy to remove and rebuild, if necessary.
