Retired car wash guy here, that can't fix his shower at home. My water is hot, no matter what position the handle is in. I attempted to take the valve apart, but as far as I got was getting the handle off. I couldn't find any parts at Menards that look anything like what I can see in there, and also I couldn't get them out. I didn't want to go any farther with it for now, because I have to shut off the water for the whole house. Can anyone help me identify it, and do I need a special tool to get the guts out? I tried unscrewing it with a pair of needle-nose held open, but it was a no-go.

Your valve is PricePfister OX8. To remove the trim you will need to turn the sleeve in the center counter clockwise to remove. You will see 4 screws holding in the cartridge # 97042. Pull the old cartridge out and slide a new one in.

Yes 974-042 Sorry for the typo
