Hello all, I am new to forum and need help. I am working on a 1971 mobile home hot water bath shower valve that leaks a little when shut off and leaks a lot out the stem when opened up. I got the knob off to check the packing nut, but to my supprise this valve has no such nut, just the nut that connects the valve to the valve body. I bought a shower valve wrench set and 31/32 is the closest size that fits, although it is a bit sloppy. But it appears it will take some muscle to get it out. The trim piece behind the knob unscrewed from valve and has a threaded plastic sleeve attached to it, is that normal.

I will get handle pic tomorrow. I stopped by fergusons plumbing and was told that since its a mobile home it will not be a easy to get a new valve. I really just want to repack it, but there is no way to remove stem without removing the valve itself (there is no stem packing nut). I am assuming once the valve is out of the hole that the stem unscrews through the back and can be repacked. Can I put a different valve in if I find one similar size and same thread pattern to screw it in to valve body ? It is a 16 spline broach.
