Neutralizer tank?

Can anyone tell me what this tank is? As shown in pic's, it's directly after filter for well water coming to house and then its ahead of soft water setup. It's old and leaking and it surely needs a refresh. I'm thinking it is a neutralizing tank. A local reputable well driller did a basic before/ after water test for me. (I realize it is not comprehensive testing) the results are attached. This unit is at least 20 years old, and when I bought the property I am certain it had never been backflushed for at least10 years or more. As my before and after numbers are decent, and the before PH is 7.2, I am wondering if I even need it? I am wanting to put in a hose bib after the soft water to clean the solar panels with as the water directly from the well leaves some pretty good water spots. The water after does not. I figure this tank is probably rock solid by now and not really doing anything. I am putting in a much larger pre filter this weekend and while at it, thought I might remove this tank altogether. Thought's?

It is not a neutralizer unless the tank has a fill port on the other side, plus pH numbers don't call for a neutralizer. Iron test numbers are not high enough to warrant an iron filter either... assuming the numbers you posted are for close to right. How does the water seem to you?

Should i have posted this in a different forum location?
Impatient?

Seriously, though, this forum is not only for softeners but also for other water treatment.

I'll have to check for a port. The water off the well, before filtering is pretty good, no iron issue or discoloration at all. Tastes fine, very little sediment in filter when I change it. After the softener all is fine. Biggest issue is water spots from pre filter directly from well. I'm really wondering if this 20 plusbyear tank is doing anything as far as filtering or conditioning water goes.

What are you saying, and what makes that an issue?

You could put that filter into bypass, and see if there is any negative effect on your water.

Sorry, thought i was clear in initial post. I was wanting to put a hose bib in after the soft water exclusively for cleaning solar panels as the current outside hose bibs are directly off well before any filtering and the well water leaves a lot of water spots that are difficult to get off of panels. In addition i am installing a larger blue filter as the old one's housing is in need of replacement. I was questioning why I even need that larger tank, especially since it's been there 20 plus years, is leaking all over, never backflushed, etc. It's a mystery to
me as to what it's for other than iron and PH,, of which, PH may have been different at original install. Sorry for the length.

Is this the port you were referring to?

Probably. Cool. I have not seen one like that, but It has to be a media fill port I think.
