I have an oil supply that feeds a forced hot air furnace and a boiler. We don't usually use the furnace because I also have a heat pump.

The boiler supplies our hot water. I also have baseboard heat in an addition on the house but don't usually use it due to a mini split.

Question:

What should I set my hydrostat high and low at? I have an indirect direct water heater attached.

It was set at 185 with no low limit. The hot water in the house could scald and I have two children under the age of 4 so I want to make things safer, but comfortable, and efficient.

Any tips?

Probably have a cast boiler. Cast boiler the water temperature set 160° and the return water temp would be 140°. Has to be 135° no lower. There should be a tank thermostat not set any higher that 130° 20° temp difference. A mixing valve for the a steady water temperature. Then the thermostat controlling the boiler can be set higher. Water temp above 120° is dangerous especially with kids or elderly.
