This 17 year old gas furnace has made this sound at startup for as long as I can remember. At least 10 years if not always.

It only lasts for 2-3 seconds then runs quietly until the next startup.

It does not make this sound in the summer when the A/C comes on. Only the winter heat.

A friend recently heard it and said it shouldn't do that so...any thoughts?

That's a multi speed blower motor (3?,4?), & it would be rare, for the blower to be outa balance just on low/medium speed for heat, & not make any noise during the higher speed for cooling.

So I'm guessing, based only on the video, & your comments Mlang, that it is the Induced Draft Fan, which You need to get fixed as soon as possible, for "When" it "gives up th' ghost", your furnace will go in a "Lock Out", & You will not have any heat.

It ended up being the main blower motor. The variable speed was the reason it didn't make the sound for A/C (full speed) but did for heat.
