Garbage Disposal pushing water/debris into adjacent sink.

As the title says, when the disposal is on, water/debris comes out of the adjacent drain, enough to get on items drying.

The disposal is nearly new, but the previous disposal did it too so this has been going on for a long time.

We don't purposely put grease or produce in the disposal, just small scraps that we don't first clean off in the trash.

I filled up the sink without the disposal and let it drain while monitoring the inside of the disposal. No water was observed, the sink drained quickly.

These sinks are on an island, so a wall vent is not possible.

I was considering an under sink vent as high as possible, or a new Tee with diverters.

Suggestions?

The copper pipe going into the drain is from the dishwasher.

I wonder if there is a P-trap beneath the floor. In normal IPC, a trap would be needed above the floor. Maybe you have a local amendment permitting a trap beneath the floor with an island. Your setup would not be permitted with any US codes unless there was a local amendment, and I know some places have such local amendments.

It would be interesting to see below from the basement or crawl space, but lack of a trap does not cause bad draining. The trap blocks smells.

Ignoring that, slip joint tees are available with the baffle, and you probably already have such a baffle. Your tee is not the common kind either. Most disposal tees have two nuts near the body. Yours has a side port with a long tube on it.

One of these could be yours: https://www.supplyhouse.com/Jones-S...rect-Connect-Disposer-Kit-w-16-Adjustable-Arm

I also wonder how your setup would disassemble. Maybe that is easier than it looks. You could look to see if there is a baffle in place.

Update: As suggested by @Reach4 the Tee already has the baffle. @Reach4 also suggested there might be a P-trap and fortunately I have a basement with a drop ceiling so I checked and there is a P-trap.

I used a powered drain snake on the P-trap and when finished, the end of the snake was completely clear, no debris.

Re-testing, the disposal is still pushing out through the other sink.

Any other ideas to try?

Try closing the stopper in the left bowl before turning on the disposal.

That's what we do, but it's annoying because we have a dish dryer in that sink and sometimes it has a lot of wet dishes at the same time you want to use the disposal. If we forget to remove the dishes, then they get covered in debris.

If you were looking at this before stuff was glued, I could see the joining of the two drains via a wye rather than a tee.

As it sits now, I am picturing cutting that vertical pipe (with the purple) and putting a wye there. Have each bowl feed the wye separately. Ideally the DW drain would come into the straight port, and the left bowl would feed the 45 degree port. It seems complicated to implement.

Thanks for the advice. This is the original plumbing except at one time maybe 20 years ago I had to re-do some of it to fit the position of the new sink. I followed the original design except lengthening or shortening a couple of straight pieces.

I will consider reworking it per your suggestions. Thanks
