I recently had a EL296V gas furnace installed. Are there any common problem with these? Any parts I should stock up on? Any maintenance I can be doing on my own?

It's under warranty. Blower motor is ecm constant torque $ 2k. Gas valve $800, burner control board $500. Most parts are expensive. Top of the line lennox don't worry about it.

Fair enough....on my old Carrier furnace, I had a problem where the furnace would come on briefly and then the flame would go off. It cost me $100 or 150 to have someone come to my house and "sand off" a bit of scale off the flame sensor. Every year thereafter, I did a little sanding of my own, and never had to call back. I also had an igniter go. Any tips/hints on this new furnace?

Hot surface igniters the material has changed from silicon carbide to silicon nitride which failure rate is very low. Carbide drop it trash can nitride very tuff material.
Flame rod materials have also changed there a lot better coating of a semiconductor material
Peace of mind buy one of each put them in burner compartment.
