We currently have a Noritz tankless water heater set at 115F and it takes about minute to get hot water to some of our fixtures. I'd like to connect a grundfos recirculating pump (UPS 15-55 SUC - 59896781) along with an aquastat (Grundfos part 595443) to a wemo smart outlet.

My use case is that I can set up a geofence to detect our smartphones so that when my wife or I are home and the water temp falls below 85 degrees, the recirculation pump will run until the water temp hits 105 degrees. I understand there will still be a sandwich, but mitigated by above setup.

Has anyone tried this? If so, does it work in practice? Do I just connect the aquastat and power cord to the pump and plug it into the smart outlet? Or does anyone have any suggestions/concerns related to my proposal?

Never tried it, but I think it will work fine. The pump doesn't work until it has power, and the smart outlet only gives it power when needed. I have done this with a timer before, so anything that gives power to the outlet should work the same.
