I'm not a plumber...just a homeowner hack, but I've always been leary of using a compression-type valve for 3/4" pipe and larger. After reading many posts on Terry's website where people use and recommend compression valves, I decided to use compression ball valves as the main shutoff to the bathroom I'm putting in my basement.
I put a small amount of silicone lubricant on the threads of the nut and on the back of the compression ring. I resisted the urge to put all my muscle behind tightening the compression nut--again, based on advice from this website. So far, no leaks.
Thanks to all who participate here...pros and novices alike.
