Hi all.
New on here so I apologize if I'm asking very basic questions. I bought a house relatively recently that is 25 years old with a roof fed rainwater cistern of 4,000 gallons. It yields about 1500 gallons per inch of rain from the roof. Our usage is about 1500 gallons per month. I use the water for everything except for cooking and eating. There is a pre-washer filter before the cistern from the roof and then I filter the water on entering the house. Water gets treated with chlorine and UV light. Having a issue with pin holes in copper pipes that the previous owner said started about 9 years ago. On testing the water, the ph is at 7.1 and gpg is at 1.5. Unlike most here, I suspect that the water is too soft corroding the copper. If the hardness is too low - what would be more ideal - 4.5 to 7.5 range? With a cistern - could hardness increase pellets be added directly to it or should i look at treating with water softening(hardening) equipment. Thank you.
