Hello All,

I have to install an acrylic bathtub. What brand of silicone should I use? How tide to tread the drain basket to the plastic pipe?
What is the proper sequence: installing the p trap and drain pipe first and last the drain basket and overflow or first the pipe to the tub and connection to the p trap last?

I hope these are not silly questions.

Thank you,
Mike

What's the silicone for?

A Capillary Break.
Stopping Squeaks.
Adhesion.
Expansion Gap.
Hooking up the drain basket to the pipe.
Sealing the overflow and drain line better.

You should have a waste and overflow kit. If you don't you need to go buy one.

My favourite Silicone is GEII

I like no other.

How you install and connect the drain to the tub, is somewhat determined by whether you have access below the tub. If I can set the tub, on a second floor, and have access below, I install the drain last.
If I'm working from above, then the drain gets installed first, and the tub drops down on it. I spin in the drain and attach the overflow plate last.
