I have a B&G pump on a HB Smith Propane Boiler which is probably over 40 years old. It has started to drip water when the pump is circulating so I am planning to replace the seal and gasket. I did not know if it would be a good idea to replace the impeller or keep the one which is on it since it is an older boiler sometimes new parts do not work well sometimes. Since there are no shut offs on the boiler the whole system will have to be drained and put back together before the water can be turned back on.
In regard to new parts I ran into this issue when I replaced the motor mounts a few years ago and was going to replace the coupler. Since the old coupler was steel the new coupler which was cast iron did not fit without forcing it on the pump but it fit easily on the pump body shaft. Since I did not want to force anything to fit I just used the old steel coupler. Since the steel couplers are no longer made I guess I will have to drill out the cast iron one in case the steel one breaks. Since the pump works I am not planning on replacing it.
