Just install the mess all over again in pvc and do it exactly the same way
as the old lines presently are....... why change anything,,, if you want to install
the drain in the wall then just elbow or 45 it up into the wall and keep
the new pvc trap in about the same location...in the crawl space...
add a cleanout somewhere in the line too.\\

The vent on the outside of the house is basically ok
just change the vent to pvc and run it up to way above past that window outside
and it will work.... their is no code that says you cant improvise like this...
and you can even take it above the roof line outside if you so wish if it is not
too unsightly.. I see this all the time in older homes and it will work fine

all you need is a sawzall with a steel cutting blade or two
and maybe 3 fernco fittings to tie onto the vent line and maybe
where it ties onto the main drain line..... and an assortment of fittings

it will work, it cannot not work, its got to work cause it has been working
just like this for 70 years....

I think you are good

I was going to do that but then we noticed that the trap under the floor was a violation and putting a trap in the wall would make it above the vent which can trap sewer gases. I cut out all the steel pipe except for the vent pipe but that is clogged with pine needles and whatever the animals used for nesting I assume.

There are plenty of regulations against redoing that. You actually don't know that the trap doesn't siphon from water falling so far. For all you know it's always been a piece of shit.

You Do whatever you want to do....

but here are 6 easy steps

1. cut out the whole mess down to the main line..
.but save that vent going out the side of the house

2. then just throw a double wye in the line around where that bottom tee was
originally located...

3. now make one side of the wye go for the laundry drain. .install the trap and run it up to the laundry
now make the other side of the why be for the laundry sink;; install a trap for that side

.4. now take the top end of the wye and install it to the vent going out
the side of the house.... also extend the pipe outside as high as possible
above the window or install an auto air vent on it

5. tie the bottom side of the wye into the drain

6. Install a tee and clean out plug for
future issues.... or put the cleanout outside on the vent which would make
cleaning out the line at some future date much more accessible

the fittings used are available at Lowes... + HD..

it will work for the next 100 years

Appreciate the feedback but Im done with that cast iron vent. When I cut it inside the basement noticed the inside was clogged and corroded.

When I bought the place I it came up on the inspection and we knocked some money off the house for it among other things. (should have negotiated much more off!)

If I ever sell, it will surely come up in the inspection. The drain was also overflowing with the new dryer, Not sure if that was because of the 1.5" pipe or a combination of other things. To say it was working fine all this time would not be entirely accurate. The laundry sink also never drained properly.

I'm going with this setup but with the standpipe and sink reversed on opposite sides. Will be capping off the outside vent. Parts ordered and arriving today.

best way to get the 2” pcv into the wall cavity?

2- 45’s and a diagonal run, or 2 long sweeps?

if option 2, is there a minimus length for the horizontal?

If this is a drain that has already been vented, either works, so whichever is easier to install. The two 45s is slightly nicer, all other things being equal.

If using 90s, only the 90 where the drainage is changing from falling vertically to moving horizontally needs to be long sweep. The 90 where the drainage turns from horizontal back to vertical may be a regular quarter bend.

Cheers, Wayne
