Have a 1hp submersible well pump that shuts off shortly after starting. I hear the pump kick on with no unusual noise. About 15 seconds later I start to hear the relay chatter then it shuts down. Ohm'ed the pump wires. They checked out what they were supposed to. I noticed that the pressure gauge immediately goes to 80lbs after starting. Is this pump producing too much pressure and over heating? Bought a new control box thinking it was a bad relay and same symptoms. Any ideas?

I suspect that the chattering is the pressure switch, rather than the relay in the control box. If you are sure that is not the case, say so.

Pressure switch needs to be placed very close to the input of the pressure tank, and with a good size path between.

Consider posting a photo that includes the line from the well, the pressure tank input, the pressure switch and pressure gauge.

Chattering definitely coming from control box. Wouldn't doubt the pressure switch isn't bad. Don't have a way of checking amperage draw after start-up. Neighbor said that would be the next thing to look at.
