I want to install a sub-panel with 8-20 amp breakers.

What is the minimum gauge wire needed from the main to the sub panel?
what is the minimum size breaker needed in the main to feed the sub?

Thanks.

Supposed to base sizing on doing a load calculation as you don't assume all running at full power (8x20=160, 120v means 80 amps).

60, 90, and 100 are common sizes. Short runs use copper wire, long runs use aluminum to save money (but need larger wires).

Assuming the run isn't too long, typically most would tun #6 AWG copper THHN in conduit or 6/3 nm-b with a 60 amp double pole breaker at the main for that sub panel.
