So I went to replace a broken impact head with a new rotor style with a 3/4" thread. The previous impacts I replaced had 1" tubing to them. So dug this one up and noticed it was much smaller, I thought it was 1/2" (one of the farthest heads away from house). Turns out a 1/2" barb fitting will not even come close to going in. So i guess it's a 3/8" tube? Would this make sense? And I doubt I'd have good results going to a 3/4" fitting for the new head.

Need to check the other heads I want to replace to see what size tubing they have supplying them.

Should I just dig this up and replace it with 1" or 3/4" tubing?

You can use any size pipe you want. It might be a short section of irrigation pipe. This is sold as 2 ft lengths, coils and plenty of barb fittings in 3/4 & 1/2" size. This pipe is usually used to the last connection from the feed pipe to the sprinkler. It allows the sprinkler to move up and down should something heavy like a car or a riding mower come down on it. It might be funny pipe.
