Hi, I am trying to figure out if the shower leak, behind the tile and from the drip after the door is opened, is causing the baseboard/grout issue. I have no idea what theyellow/white and brown stuff is. All I know is there are ants coming in now from there. We had the tile replaced last year from a leak behind it and that happens to be the wall and baseboard. Help!

Ps...we are renters and our land lady is super nice about getting things fixed. I need to know what to tell her is the problem and why the last plumber last year didn't fix it properly if it was something other than just replacing that single tile and fixing the handle where the leak was occurring.

Thanks.

I'm not a professional plumber, but it seems like you have multiple issues going on there not to mention some potential health risks. Just looking at the images indicate (to me) that that shower needs a total renovation. You've got cracks galore up and down. Water is surely going to find it's way into those and then it will mold and rot (causing the potential health problems). That shower needs to be completely redone or have the cracks sealed at the very least. If it's not done now it will surely cost much more if it is put off. The white and brown stains could be mineral related or mold (brown). Looks like some sort of calcification with rust.

I agree, the shower area needs acfull replacement, not more patches. The dark stuff is when water sits for a while, the wet wood along with soaps, dirt, minerals in the water will leave those dark runs. Some of it could be mold especially up the painted areas.
