Hi- is it necessary to install a sediment trap /drip leg for a gas dryer? I'm in Chicago, for the record. I can't find anything about this in the code and/or general guidance online.

Thank you!

nessesary , possibly it would be the only place Ive heard that requires on a dryer to have a sediment trap but hey its chicago you never know . UPC and IPC dont require a clothes washer to have a sediment trap but I dont know about all the bastard codes what they want
Sorry but decades of never using sediment traps and not experiancing many issues I think its a waste of time even on water heaters and furnaces . But thats code so I follow code i dont agree with it but will abide

It wont hurt a thing to have one , is very cheap to install, and lastly 99.99 percent of the time worthless. If you are in some area with a horrible gas provider absolutely put them everywhere.
