I have a few holes in a vertical section of my cast stack.

I would like to cut the section put and replace with PVC but will need to install a riser clamp to support the section above the cut.

How tight does one tighten the bolts on the riser clamp to be sure not to crack the cast?
Is there a foot/pound suggestion for torque on riser clamp bolts?

thank you,

James Henry

There is no foot/pound recommendation, you just put it on and tighten it until it feels good and tight. the clamp won't crack your pipe unless you go nuts and over tighten it or if the pipe is deteriorated from old age.

Hi James,

I totally get that.

In another life, I was a pipe fitter and 6g (all position) high pressure TIG welder. Mostly titanium and hastelloy.
Huge heat exchangers, chemical reactors etc, there were so many things we did day in day out, just by feel, just by experience.

But being so far removed from that world now, I though it best to ask before smashing up my old cast stack. :(

I appreciate the tips.
The only part of the project that makes me nervous is that riser clamp, being an unknown for me.
