On a DIY page, it was suggested to install an inline powered exhaust fan on the main plumbing vent stack prior to exiting the roof. The reason was that sewer gas smells were noticed adjacent to the home. I pointed out the obvious danger of causing a methane gas explosion but what other impact does pulling a negative pressure on the vent system have? Has anyone come across such an idea implemented?

Septic or sewer?

Raising the vent pipe higher would typically be a good move if the probem gas from the vent stack
