I'm looking to DIY reno my whole bathroom and replace my tub. Upon closer inspection from inside the opposite wall where my water main is, I realized the Tee fitting leading to the main drainage pipe is embedded in the concrete. I would like to avoid cutting the concrete due to uncertainty and proximity to the water main.

Wondering, what would be the best way to handle a tub replacement.?
Carefully remove tub and reuse the old drain assembly?
Heat gun to melt the pvc glue and remove all fittings except for the Tee fitting? Use everything in the Oatey kit I bought except for the T fitting.

Or would a plumber be willing to open up the concrete and do the whole tub for me?

Your gonna want to get the tub first. Then decide what you need to do.

Depending on how drastically your new tub changes as far as the drain location goes, you're probably going to want to break up the concrete and redo the Trap and whatnot. You don't have to cut the concrete to break it up meaning you can be careful for water lines, you don't need a saw.

Thanks John, I'll see what it looks like when the new tub is dry fitted. Also prep-ed for concrete demo work with a chisel/mallet
