Need advice on Replacing PRV

I noticed the PRV on my main line has a slowe leak and I want to replace it. While I have it apart, I'm going to switch the order so the new ball valve will be before the prv. I'm fairly certain I have to cut the grayish connector off so my question is can I slide a new coupling over the purple primer on the incoming main line? My concern is having to cut it off and not having enough pipe to connect a new fitting to
