Hi, I'm looking into a storage tank setup for my low yield well. Since I have a 50ft dug well (dry) beside my drilled well, do you think it's possible to seal the bottom of the dug well to hold/store water? This would eliminate the need for a plastic storage tank and it already has a submersible pump setup...
Has anyone done this or seen this done?

Colin.

If it is just the bottom, cement would work. But if any of the sides leak the water will probably just go back down the drilled well. There are all kinds of stuff to line tanks and things with these days. But lining a 50' well would not be cheap or easy. You would probably spend a lot less and have fewer problems just putting a plastic cistern tank on the surface somewhere. Even moving the pump from the dug well to the new cistern shouldn't cost much.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, probably looking at a big job to completely seal that well to store/hold water.
Maybe I can find a cistern that will fit in that well? Just trying to avoid having a cistern in my yard somewhere or in the house...

I thought about putting a tank down the old dug well. But you would not be able to get to the ports on the bottom or be able to maintain it very well.
