Question on old sewer line in 100 yr. old house, on home septic system. Its a long horizontal run, about 30 feet, then goes outside and about 25 ft. to the concrete tank. Its original to the house, so some kind of black heavy metal (galvanized ?) Reading about buildup in sewer pipes, I am wondering if I should have this line cleaned out and how ?
No real cleanout access on this old metal sewer line because while there is a cleanout access, the cap seems to be permanently or semi-permanently sealer with lead, or something, ie it probably won't turn out. Should the line ( four inch pipe) perhaps even be replaced with plastic ? The system is working OK, ie no backups or problems, but with the age of the system, I wonder about getting the line cleaned out or replaced. Toilet on the line is old 6 gallon (or so) tank. Any and all advice welcome, thanks.

It is typical to have to chisel out the cleanout cap. Black heavy drain pipes will be cast iron.

I suggest no work on the house drain lines if there is no problem. Do search out who you plan to call if a problem develops, and put a note by the cleanout.

Do get the septic tank pumped periodically. If it has been a long time for that, get that done. Get advised from the pumper as to how long to go for the next time.

By the answers, it looks like best thing here is, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it," and also be prepared for a problem before it happens. Both good advice for this, (and for everything else, too.) By the way, yes , as mentioned in an answer, it is cast iron pipe.
