The main feature is that the worm gear clamp does not increase diameter. There are 4 or more special slots each made from connecting two holes with a jigsaw. A single cut at the top lets the fingers overlap. Tightening the worm gear clamp draws the fingers together. The construction intends to make the part above the clamp wider to prevent the pipe from slipping down.
