I have a 1 ft3 Fleck 5800 Sxt softener. My hardness in water is 9 gpg on city water and there are 4 people in the home. So I have about 2,700 grains to recover per day.

I'm trying to figure out the proper control valve programming settings for capacity, BW, BD, RR & BF.

So... I have a 32,000 grain unit. At an 8lb salting I can recover 24,000 grains. Should the Capacity be set at 32 for the total capacity or 24 if I'm using an 8lb salting?

Is there a formula to calculate the best backwash length, brine draw length, and rapid rinse length? Currently I just have it set at 10/60/10.

For the brine fill to get an 8lbs salting with a blfc of .25gpm i get an 11min fill time.

Any input would be appreciated.

cubic ft resin = 1 ; ft3 resin = (nominal grains)/32,000
Compensated hardness = 10 ; including any compensation
People = 4 ; gallons affects reserve calc
Estimated gal/day = 240 ; 60 gal per person typical calc
Estimated days/regen = 10.00 ; Computed days including reserve

DF = Gal ; Units
VT = dF1b ; Downflw/, Single Backwash, black cam
CT = Fd ; Meter Delayed regen trigger
NT = 1 ; Number of tanks
C = 23 ; capacity in 1000 grains
H = 10 ; Hardness-- compensate if needed
RS = rc ; rc says use gallons vs percent
RC = 240 ; Reserve capacity gallons
DO = 30 ; Day Override (30 if no iron)
RT = 2:00 ; Regen time (default 2 AM)
BW = 5 ; Backwash (minutes)

The less salt per cubic ft, the more salt efficient, but more hardness breakthrough.
BLFC = 0.5
cubic ft resin = 1
Alternative C and BF pairs:

4.500 ; 18.0 ; 3
6.000 ; 21.0 ; 4 #less salt
7.500 ; 23.3 ; 5 #used above
9.000 ; 25.2 ; 6 #softer water.

12.000 ; 27.9 ; 8
13.500 ; 28.9 ; 9
15.000 ; 29.8 ; 10 #uses more salt. Silkier water.

Thanks for the response. So the C should be set to match the BF recovery. In your example, a 6lb salting will recover 21,000 grains. Therefore C will be set at 21 and BF will be set to 4 if BLFC is .5gpm to give us the 2gallons needed.
