This might be dumb and crazy, but I'll ask it. I'm remodeling a bathroom in my home. I'm using a small wall mounted vanity and I would really prefer to mount it at ~36". The issue is that the drain stub out is too low and will allow me to only mount it at 32". Cutting the bottom of the vanity out to allow room for the P Trap isn't really an option because it would then stick out of the bottom of the vanity and be visible. Going all the way back to the stack and raising the entire drain isn't something I want do either, although, I understand that that would be the best option.
Would it be a problem to put the P Trap inside the wall so that I can raise the drain at the vanity? I could use a wye inside the vanity with a cleanout. Or I could possibly use slip joints inside the vanity to create a 90 (being careful not to create a second P trap). That way, the slip joints could be removed if it needs snaked instead of needing a wye. I would use a sched 40 P Trap inside the wall.
Right when the drain enters the wall, I would have a 90 down to the P Trap. The P Trap weir would be ~4" lower than where the pipe comes out of the wall. I'm not sure if that 4" matters for the P Trap or not.
I can't find anything that says this would be against code. I think my biggest concern is the flags this might raise with a house inspector when I go to sell the place.
Here is an awful drawing of what I'm thinking.
