Hi folks. I have a question about placement of a cleanout for a WC. The 3" drain for the WC drops straight down into the crawlspace then turns 90 degrees to horizontal, and connects into the main drain line. The vent connects about 2-3' down the line with a wye that's turned up at 45 degrees so there is no flat vent . Currently there is no dedicated cleanout for the WC and since it doesn't connect to the vent in the wall directly behind it, I can't put a cleanout there. I was thinking of adding a cleanout in the crawlspace directly underneath the WC where it turns 90 degrees replacing the 90 with a long sweep wye and adding a cleanout adapter and plug on the end. I found a sketch online of what I was thinking of. I have learned that many things found online are wrong so I thought I'd run it by you all.

Is this a good idea? Do you think I need to go through this trouble to add a cleanout? I haven't had any problems, just thinking ahead. If the wye cleanout is a bad idea, is there a better solution?

Thanks!

Lifting the toilet and rodding through the flange is pretty common. For an existing install, I would count on that.
In no-freeze places, the cleanouts often extend outside. That makes it convenient.

If you want to avoid pipe clogs, how about considering a bidet seat or a bidet attachment?

I think you're more likely to get a clog under the toilet by adding a cleanout there, since there's nothing to scour the back of the wye. A long sweep 90 is smooth so the flush water will just blast around the corner, the wye has the extra chamber where the cleanout goes to create eddies that will slow down the water and fill up with crud. As long as you have less than 180 worth of bends between the toilet and the next cleanout, you're good for snaking.

Thanks everyone. That's just what I wanted to know. I thought putting a cleanout there may cause more problems then it solved and you confirmed that for me. I'll leave it be.
