Can I use a Fleck 5600 softener valve to control an iron filter?

Im putting together an iron filter for my home. I have a Fleck 5600 softener valve on hand and was wondering if I could save a few bucks by using it instead of buying a new backwash only valve. Would I need to manually turn the dial to backwash or could I use the timer and let it go through the whole regeneration cycle? Thanks.
